Once we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 18 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainer wear, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Please remove your retainers before brushing and eating, and remember to replace them as soon as you are finished. Don't forget to brush your retainers when you brush your teeth.
Removable Retainers
Removable Hawley retainers are used to hold your teeth in their new straightened position. You must be very careful when handling your retainers, as they are fragile and costly to replace. You will be given a special case for your retainers; please make sure you keep your retainers in this case when not wearing them! To clean your retainers, brush them gently with toothpaste and cool to luke warm water. For deep cleaning you may use denture cleaner.
Your retainers should be worn at all times with the exception of eating and brushing your teeth. Your retainer should also be removed when participating in sports that require a mouthguard or while swimming. After 6 months of full-time wear, we may reduce the amount of hours you need to wear your retainer, allowing the retainer to be worn strictly at night.
Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainer wear, please follow our instructions to maintain your beautiful smile!
